I called up the kids the other night and when i asked them what they were doing, they told me that they were already in the bedroom getting ready for bed. I asked them who they were with and they told me that it was just them and the yaya. It was 830pm and their mommy was not yet home.
Thinking about it later on, I realized that there are so many kids these days that go to bed without a parent to tuck them in. As more and more families end up with both parents working or separated, more and more kids are left in the care of the help. I didn't experience this as I grew up. I was always secure in the thought that as I went to bed, at least one parent was at home. Honestly I don't know how such a situation would affect the next generation as they grow up.
Would they become more independent? Would they become angry at their parents? Would they be more attached to the help with whom they spend so much time with? So many questions but no answers. I can just wonder.. But given that this is the norm these days, maybe we really ought to think about paying our house helpers more so that they would take better care of our kids as we go off to eke out a living.
I just hope my kids turn out alright..
