Christmas lament

I just got back from the province to visit my mom. And I chose to travel by bus as this is cheaper and I was bringing home a bike for my brother.

On the road, I noticed that most houses and establishments no longer displayed parols and Christmas lights. In the past, just about each house would have Christmas decor as early as November. But it's already December and there was a scant number of houses and establishments with decorations.

Maybe there are still decorations inside the homes (like the Christmas tree in our house), but the only way to know would be to peer into each and every house. Even our little town has few houses that are dressed for the occasion. I guess hard times have come and people have cut down on the decor.. But it just feels sad to see how weak the Christmas spirit has become in our country..

I wonder if there would be fewer kids singing carols as well?
