When I was youg, I had this notion that married people got laid a lot. Being legally together and bound by monogamy and all gave me the impression that husband and wife get to do it lots of times anytime they want.. I guess it was all just sugar-coated romanticism at its finest..
Maybe at the beginning of a marriage this is very much true. Being in the honeymoon phase and all, its so easy to find time and do the nasty. Ehehehe. But this all changes as soon as the couple decide to start a family.. Next thing you know one kid, two, three, maybe four kids and its all just a blur. So many things just get in the way.. And for me some of them are:
Employment / Business - people work for all sorts of reasons. The main one being hunger. Work brings food on the table. Work provides the money to pay the bills. Work gets in the way all the time. We all come home exhausted from work. Day in and day out parents go through the daily grind of work just so we can come home to our kids.. Exhausted and stressed out, there never seems to be enough energy to get laid anymore..
Kids - children are a blessing. I believe this is true. Just seeing your kids running around and playing brings a smile to your heart. There is so much joy for a parent to see his/her kids having a great time.. We really ought to enjoy it while they're still small.. Once they grow up, its all different.. Ehehehe.. And rearing kids takes up a lot of time and energy. Not to mention a lot of money.. More reason to go to work.. And after we come home from work, we still have to look after our kids somehow. And when they're sick, we go out of our way just to make sure they get better as soon as possible. More time with kids = less time with spouse. Even less time again for the nasty..
Career - for me this is different from work. When we aspire for something greater in life like a career, we tend to work more and more. In our drive to make our mark in this world, our competitive natures take control as we constantly spend more and more efforts in going up the social pyramid. Be it as an employee or as a business person, a career can greatly affect the time we spend together with our partner in life. All this just leads to less and less intimate time with our spouse..
Human Nature - now this is tricky. Its been said that men think with their dicks. I am no different - I'm a man after all. It seems that most men only have sex in their minds. Hence this post.. Ehehehe. Seriously, it must be all that testosterone making us meatheads want to do it all the time. Its really no wonder why mens' magazines sell by the millions - men just can't get enough of sex. Strangely though, that three letter word doesn't rank very high as a source of satisfaction for the female population. Surveys all over the world have confirmed this. Many women actually rank sex low in their list. Although there are women who do enjoy it (a meager minority!), recent local surveys would point to this highly polarised phenomenon between men and women.
Divergent Interests - women are from Venus and men are from Mars. Even best friends grow apart. Spouses tend to do so too. Husband goes off with his buddies for an afternoon shooting hoops while his wife drowns in the drama of the most recent Koreanovela. Next thing you know you're living with a stranger. Please don't let this happen to you. This has happened to a lot of couples because they failed to make the effort to talk. Talk is cheap so take time out to talk. =)
I remember a survey in a men's magazine a few years back where the data showed that Filipino husbands get laid a lot less than their western counterparts. Is it because of work? Busy with kids? Career? I really don't know anymore. All I know is I seem to be spending more and more time with my original partners: Mary and Maria. Sometimes dark thoughts come to me but I always manage to shoo them away by thinking that a night of debauchery will never be worth losing it all. It pays to count your blessing because that way, you know you'd regret it dearly if you lost them all on a stupid whim.. Ahahaha. Prayer helps too.
I know that I am not alone in thinking like this. There are many husbands out there thinking just like me. Maybe I'd get flak for all this shit that I've written. Maybe I'd even get hate mail. Maybe nobody would even notice. Who the hell would read Godai's blog anyway?
In a way I just want to get it all off my chest. In a way this is my way of coping. The writer in me just wants to put it all down in words. Makes for good typing practice anyway..
