Last Thursday, I was at the hospital watching over my mom. She had been in the hospital for almost a week due to pneumonia and she was still battling with some complications which prompted an extended stay in the hospital.
As I spent the day in the hospital watching over her, I came to the thought of how hard it is to be old and sick. I greatly hated the idea of being subjected to an endless battery of tests, blood samples, x-rays, and the dreaded urine catheter due to incontinence.
Right now I am already investing in my health by staying off the alcohol and staying within my ideal body weight. But seeing my mom like that really hit me hard. It made me come to the conclusion that I greatly disliked the idea of becoming that person who was confined to a bed and without full control of my bodily functions.
I didn't want to grow old. A part of me wished that I'd die young so that I would not have to go through all that..
