Last November 3, our eldest son turned 7 years old. And to celebrate, we had a pool party at home and invited his classmates and cousins over. I have to say that it was fun despite the many challenges it poised for us. We had personally made the invitations and cooked all the food - save for the cakes!
We had set up two kiddy pools at the garage for the kids to use. As for food, it was a mix of food for kids and grown-ups. Around 10am, my kids could no longer contain their excitement. They had been eagerly watching the pools get filled up and were itching to jump in at the nearest opportunity. So we let them jump in - marking the start of the party.
And as the 11am call time approached, we were starting to worry if any of our son's classmates would show up! The food was ready and we had set everything up! Fortunately for us, they did show up at around 1130am! 5 boys arrived with two moms to be exact. Soon enough the party was in full swing with the kids happily splashing away. We were soon wondering why my siblings and parents were not dropping in to say hello and eat! So at around past noon, I called them to the party as the invitation got inadvertently lost by my mother. So much for handing a birthday party invitation to somebody who has Alzheimer's disease! Ahahahahaha! And surprisingly, one of my son's girl classmates showed up! Much to the chagrin of my wife! Ahahahahaha! She's not yet ready to think of the idea that our sons will someday come to love another woman other than her! Ahahahahaha!
Past 1pm and the kids were running low on energy and the parents had decided to go home. So as the guests left in batches, we breathed a sigh of relief as we saw that the food we had prepared was just enough for the guests that showed up! Had all the invited guests arrived, we probably would not have had enough food for them! Ahahahahaha! God is good!
The last guest to arrive were my eldest brother-in-law and his family. And as they arrived, another round of swimming began as his kids and my kids decided to go into the pools. Suffice to say that my kids (except for Izzy who I put to sleep that afternoon!) did not take their afternoon nap because of all the excitement. Sure enough, they fell asleep early that night!
It was a fun party, albeit very tiring! And honestly, we saved a ton of money by having it at our house rather than having it done outside. One kid down, two to go! Ahahahahahaha!
