Keeping calm in the face of anger

People will always say things that we will not like.  Be it our boss telling us we messed up.  Be it the pastor on the pulpit telling us how much more effort we need to give as Christians.  Be it our kids telling us about how they drew such a wonderful mural on the living room wall.  And when we are told things that we don't exactly like, tempers are sure to rise. Stress hormones get churned out by the bucket load.  And next thing we know we are in beast mode.

If there's anything we all need to do in these situations, we need to calm down and take a deep breath.  Letting our anger or frustration get the better of us will only lead to greater damage.  Difficult as it may be, we need to take the time first to understand the situation and the other person before we go into beast mode.  Its not easy for anybody to do. And it will never be easy.

But if we can learn to gain control over ourselves, maybe there would be a helluva lot less hate, fighting, and loss in this world.  So next time you find yourself in one, take a deep breath, say a prayer, and keep an open mind.

Amen.
