Mating season in the animal kingdom..

I often watch documentaries in NGC and in the Discovery Channel and get to learn about all sorts of stuff.  One of the most memorable videos that I got to watch was about the behavior of animals during mating season.

In it, males would often ensure that they look their best and try their hardest to outdo the next dude in order to attract and mate with the females that are in the area.  Some go into monogamous unions while in some animals, the most desirable males get to mate with as many females as they like.  And honestly, I can't help but draw parallels with the human subset of the animal kingdom..

I have been privileged to watch people do their mating dances in social media and honestly, it is so very much like what happens everywhere else in the animal kingdom.  Similar to other animals, males go about posturing in the feeds hoping to catch the eye of a female.  And similar to most other animals, it is the female who has the pick of the litter.  Furthermore, some males enter into monogamous unions while some males go about sleeping around - subconsciously following their genetic programming to spread their DNA to as many females as possible.

One of the most glaring differences however is that the human species has no particular time of the year that they go off mating.  All this posturing, courting, and mating happens all year round unlike with other animals that often mate in the spring.  That, and humans seem to be the most adept in making use of the widest array of tools, techniques, and strategies in landing a mate.  It sort of makes things simple yet complex at the same time.

Maybe I'm just rambling here but am I wrong in my observations?
