POETRY: Weary Servant

December 16, 2014

WEARY SERVANT

It's another morning yet again
as I struggle to rise from my bed.
Outside I can hear the rain.
My stomach wants to be fed.

I go through the motions yet once more.
Without thought, as if automatic.
I am empty in my core
and moving as if driven by magic.

I go through my day just like this.
I am dragging my feet from the ground.
Finding my way out of an endless abyss,
when will I be found?

It brings me no joy to be here.
Here where you are not.
Not here where I am trembling with fear.
Fear of losing what I have got.

I tire easily from this constant battle.
Waging a losing war with myself.
Maybe later I will get myself a bottle,
or read something from the shelf.

I know I must have faith in Him.
But this has been my hardest test yet.
Can faith can come and go like a whim?
Maybe you and I can make a bet.

Having lost my place,
I turn to Him who has brought me here.
Wandering as if I was last in a race,
my cries of anguish are all you hear.

I am tired my Lord.
But I will follow as you tell me.
I will follow you of my own accord.
For only you can set me free.
