Throwback Thursday: Gradeschool Love Letter

So I'm jogging on a beautiful Thursday morning and as I was walking home, I remembered a particular event from my past..  It was the first time that I received a love letter way back in Grade 5!  Ahahahahaha!  It made me cringe and smile at the same time as I recalled how awfully I handled the situation..  So here goes..

I had just transferred schools and I was starting grade 5 in a totally new environment.  I hadn't made any friends yet and I had my guard up.  I had come from a Chinese school in Quezon City and was so full of myself.  I thought that my previous school was superior and that my new school was probably full of dumb kids.  But only a week into my new school, I had come to see just how smart my classmates were.  I was up to the realization that my previous school was only full of affluent Chinoy kids who were no smarter than the smart kids all over the country.

A month into my new school, I already know the names of my seatmates and sort of settle in.  My classmates were very smart and I had gotten used to my new routine.  That is until I get a love letter!  WTH!!!  I didn't know what to do!!  What on earth was I supposed to do?  I was a mixed bag of emotions!  But I guess deep down I was very confused by it.

I had a crush on a girl in my previous school and was very much fixated on her that time.  And even in my new school, all I could think of when it came to girls was her.  I would compare every pretty girl I saw to my crush and think to myself that she was still prettier.  I was that bad!  And now somebody sends me a love letter!  The young me was all about defending my feelings for my old crush and would have nothing of this love letter nonesense.

I ended up tearing the love letter to shreds.  And that's when I found out who gave the love letter.  The letter sender saw it all and it broke her heart to see my heartless reaction.  The girls in class hated me for it and one of the boys took it upon himself to get back at me by bullying me.  It was tough but I paid the price for my recklessness.

Looking back, I guess young boys are really stupid when it comes to these things.  All we have in our minds are our selfish interests and still do not have the capacity to empathize with other people and understand their thoughts and feelings.  Youth can really be weakness when it comes to these things.  Being young, boys are still inept and poorly equipped to handle abstract concepts like love and relationships.  On the other hand, young girls are a lot more mature for their age but fail to realize that young boys are too stupid to care.  It's no wonder that young girls end up dating older guys!  Guys their age just can't keep up!

So much for my flashback on a Thursday morning.  I've learned so much more over the years and I have to say that there is still so much to learn in life.  I wonder..
