I had originally started writing this piece last Thursday as a throwback article. I had suddenly remembered the Yahoo group that my highschool classmates had set up back in the day. In that group we would catch up and talk about the things that we as new adults had come to learn and face. It was also where we would arrange to have our class reunions since not everybody had a mobile phone back then.
I continued writing it the next day and thought about calling it "Throwback Thursday on a Friday" but ended up putting it on the back burner since I hadn't really made up my mind on what to put down. And as the days have passed, the idea has grown and now I know just what I want to share about it all.
One of our classmates asked a rather interesting question in our Yahoo group. His question was: "How do you know if he/she is the one?" It was a rather tricky question especially since we were all just in our early twenties and just fresh out of college. Some of us were still taking post graduate education while most of us were working our butts off our first jobs. I thought that the question was rather cheeky given that somebody would ask such a question at such an early time in our adult lives. Looking back, the last thing on my mind then was to get hitched! All I wanted was to earn a good living in order to afford the stuff that I wanted on top of helping out with the expenses at home.
And so I cheekily answered: "It's so nice to be able to ask such a question given that a lot of people these days find their answer at the end of a positive test kit." I was actually alluding to some of our classmates who had gotten married early after running into unexpected pregnancies and obviously could no longer answer our classmate's question. My reply ticked off a lot of our classmates as they thought that I was being callous of people who got married early due to unexpected pregnancies. Suffice to say while they all had wonderful answers to the question, mine really rubbed them the wrong way.. Bad cat.
Honestly, I find it a luxury to be able to ask such a question. So many people these days just stumble through life and end up getting married for all the wrong reasons. Positive test kit included! Alright, aside from all that, there are so many good articles in the net that talk about this. They're all about signs that tell us that we've found that one person we want to spend the rest of our lives with. I've read through some of them and I definitely agree with the things that are there. Now if only people would actually take such articles to heart, there wouldn't be so many people marrying for the wrong reasons!
Now what was my real answer to my classmate's question? Gut feel. It's when your gut tells you that he/she is the one. I'm not alone in this one. Even the articles in the net have this. And I have gone by this way back since my classmate posted that question more than a decade ago. I don't need a reason. I just know that when I meet that person and get to know her by spending time with her, I'd know she's the one. All the other signs just come second.
