The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks
A friend recommended this book recently and I made sure to get the e-book for reading on my cellphone. The book started off a bit slow and honestly some points were just boring. I've read some Nick Sparks books and this one is set in the same Southern American locales of his previous books. Somehow the American South just has romance tied to it...
The story is nothing unusual. Its happened to many people - finding love and losing it. Making tough choices between love and real life. A lot of the things in this book are hard on the heart especially the parts where violence to children is involved. This book is definitely not for the squeamish and faint of heart. Its a book for adults and the themes in it are definitely NOT FOR KIDS!
I don't want to go on about the plot and all that stuff. There are plenty of other better reviews out there for this book for you to read. And honestly, I want to focus more on the ending than anything else.. Let me say that the ending is exactly what I expect of Nick Sparks. He writes books that end like real life. Not those happy endings that ties up all the loose ends and leaves you happy and satisfied. This book in particular ends badly. Its an ending that leaves you feeling sad and blue and happy at the same time. Its what life is all about. And I can't be more satisfied that I read this book. Why? Because I've grown tired of happy endings, of books that end like its waiting for a sequel, of sad endings where everybody loses badly, and of books that don't end at all. This book is more like the latter but I guess its all right. People are just not used to books that end like this.
Life goes on. This is how the book ends and is the main message it sends across for me. I don't know how this will come across to other people, but it was clear as day for me.
Now I'm thinking of what Nick Sparks book to read next.. Ehehehehe..
