Buying a sandwich..

I had been watching "Amazing Eats" recently at the Discovery Travel and Living Channel on cable.  And one of the results was me having this HUGE sandwich craving that I've been lugging around with me for the longest time!  And the opportunity to kill that craving finally came to me yesterday.

I was a Megamall for a meet-up to buy a slightly-used 3G wifi router.  And as I was waiting for my contact, I went to Globe Telecom to apply for a second line in order to get my hands on a Huawei W1 smartphone.  Why?  Because my Nokia C3 has been steadily deteriorating and I need a new phone to replace it.  So to avoid spending cash on a new phone, I'll be cutting my existing line (which is already past its lockdown period) and applying for a new one with the intent to get a new phone.  Ehehehehehe.

My contact arrives shortly after I finish applying for a new line and we make the deal.  He recently bought the item a month ago but found out that he had no 3G signal at home so he decided to just sell the item and get something else without the 3G connectivity.  We realize that we're both of Filipino-Chinese descent and soon enough we were talking in the fookien dialect as we close the deal.  The item I get is very nice and I am greatly pleased with myself.

Payment given.  Handshake to close the deal.  Chitchat over.  Great day so far.

Back to the story.  After the deal falls through I head off to Subway at the basement of Mega A.  I walk in and I check out the menu.  I don't really know what to get so I ask the lady at the counter what they'd recommend.  I do all this while speaking in English by the way.  And though I noticed that they were sort of taken aback by my English, I couldn't step back and speak in Tagalog anymore.  So I continue on and eventually get my sandwich and a bottle of water.  I try to speak in some Tagalog to make them realize that I'm a Filipino and to put them somewhat at ease from the initial surprise of me speaking in English to get my order...  But to no avail.

Soon after I get my order, I notice from the corner of my eye that the counter lady runs off to hide at the back room!  Ahahahahahaha!  It seems my English just scared off another person at the counter! Before I leave I buy another sandwich to go for my wife and I make the effort to speak in Tagalog this time around.  Ahahahahahah.

Damn! Me and my English..  I guess I really ought to try harder at speaking in Tagalog...

Anyways, I'm just glad to have gotten my sandwich..  One craving down, on to the next one!!  BURGER!!
