Great bike ride yesterday. Went along with our bike group, the Barangay Parang Bikers Club, to Tagaytay City. It had been a month in planning and I had greatly looked forward to it. And when it finally pushed through yesterday, I was greatly excited since I had only gone to Tagaytay on numerous occasions via car but never via bicycle.
We set off at 530am and by 8am we were already at Imus, Cavite. I actually went by my brother-in-law's house in DasmariƱas hoping to see a glimpse of my kids. But all I saw was a locked up house with nary a sound of human activity. I left quietly and proceeded to go back to riding to Tagaytay. I caught up with the main group at Robinson's Mall in DasmariƱas, which became the last waypoint on our way up as we waited for everybody to arrive and gave instructions for the final push upwards. On the way up, I neglected to rest which resulted in my left knee starting to hurt due to the strain and it eventually slowed me down greatly for the rest of the ride.
We made it to Tagaytay rotunda at around 1130am and waited for everybody to arrive until we went to Mahogany drive for lunch. Our odometers all counted 82kms and we had another 82kms more to go. And after taking our much-desired lunch, we rested for a bit until we set off again at 2pm. On the way back down, we took the alternate route via Amadeo town and saved up a lot of time as there were no buses or jeeps to contend with. My knee got some well-deserved rest but we were still a long way to go.
From there on I decided to go on a slow pace in order to conserve my strength as well as bear with the pain from my left knee. I had earlier purchased two capsules of tramadol in order to dull the pain and manage somehow. I took one capsule after lunch and took the next one at 230pm. And after a slow and steady ride back, I made it back home by 6pm.
From a group of more than 70 riders that set off for Tagaytay, around two thirds were able to complete the trip. Some younger guys suffered cramps and were forced to hitch a ride on the support truck on their way home. Others suffered flat tires and one rider suffered a deformed front wheel. So I have to say that I was very fortunate to have been able to finish this one with only a swollen left knee. God was truly there with me from start to finish. Thank you Lord once again for granting me safe passage today.
Until next ride!!
