Went to work on my bike for the first time today. It was a very interesting ride to say the least. Ahahahaha. I had packed my safety gear the night before and was all set for war. I had put on my new set of 26" wheels and hoped for the best. This is another first for me after all..
I left home at 650am and made it to work at 735am. And the odometer reading was for 16km. Not a bad trip at all. But this was mainly because traffic was light and the roads were clear for a fast and worry-free ride. The only issue I had was that I wasn't able to switch crank plates that easily. It seems my front derailleur has issues and needs to be checked.
I wonder how the return trip will be..
Notes to self:
- pack a lighter bag
- have the front derailleur checked ASAP
- buy a second set of shoes for daily commute
Hopefully, I'll be doing this on a daily basis soon!
Edit: The ride home
The ride home was rather uneventful. I avoided trying to shift crank plates and just focused on getting home. The weather was a bit rainy and the roads were wet. I was eager to see if the new tires would provide a lot of grip despite the wet condition of the roads. Getting home, I found myself surprisingly tired despite the rather shortness of the ride. And I knew that the culprit was the heavy bag that I had to carry with me.
And to think some people do this on a daily basis. And they do it rain or shine! I have new found respect for these people because now I know what it's like for them. For now I'll be doing this as a fair weather biker. Maybe later when I've set up my bike properly, I'll do it rain or shine.
